THE CABIN IN THE WOODS - I REALLY NEED TO SHARE THIS FEELING OR I CAN’T POSSIBLY SLEEP (A REVIEW OF SORTS COUPLED WITH OTHER MOVIE EXPLOITS).

Seriously, I stupendously need to get this urge out of my mind, right away. Haaah!!! (Deep breaths then a blank stare erupts.) Waaaaaahhh!!!

Why did I watched this movie!?! Now, I can’t seem to sleep. It has severely eroded a part of my brain and is still making my cerebral fluids go wild over its overpowering plot and climactic twists and turns. It’s as though a stroke hit me and left me dazed and confused. I’m dramatically speechless and officially perplexed.

Just a few days ago, I was “googling” for our malls here in Cagayan de Oro, sifting through the multitude of sites that catered to the internet search tag “now showing” as I was eagerly checking for the new movies that were being shown. To my disgust, nothing new was worth watching. And, as surprising as it literally is, I was dragged by my own (and my girlfriend’s) ennui to watch the blasted Kimmy Dora (sh*t) movie. Yeah, I have to admit that by now, you’ve already labelled me as “baduy” since I allowed myself to watch this dreadful piece of sh*t. But, please allow me to explain, take my excuse for this sacrilege as a sudden “mishap”, an accidental miscalculation on my part that caused an impulsive want, which was needed to be tended to in order to kill that meddling feeling we so-call, “boredom”. I’m proud to declare though that for most (2/3) of the movie’s distasteful scenes, I slept and snoozed (thank God! at least I had some quality nap time. hahaha). Anyways, yes, Boy Pick-up (BOOM!) was way, way better (yes, yes, baduy na kung baduy, enjoy naman! lalu na at andun idol ko si solenn haha)! Side-quests aside, as I came back from the abysmal “tagalog-movie-thon”, yet again, was I dragged back where I came from - into the darkness of the movie house I entered, once again (3rd consecutive time in 3 days). And this time, I was utterly flabbergasted.

Yep, you’ve read that right… flabbergasted with utmost awe and happiness. Happiness that you couldn’t shrug off, no matter how hard you shake. After 2 succeeding movies I have to say the trend was like this: Sh*t (Kimmy Dora), Less Sh*ttier (Boy Pick-up), and “The Shite” (Cabin In The Woods). “Cabin”, as I can aptly call the latest horror/thriller-flick of Sci-fi god, Joss Whedon (idol) is basically a full exposition of the mind of a genius film maker by the likes of Mr. Firefly himself. Not only does Joss Whedon (idol) sucks the blood out of the Hollywood box office with his latest foray into the blockbuster comic-based superhero genre (taken by The Avengers movie that scorches blazingly hot like a hot banana-cue rubbing against your tongue); but, this lower profile film of his, which, again I aptly call as the “Cabin” clearly promulgates his loftiness and godliness when it comes to film making. Indeed (drum roll), he is a bona fide movie god (thunder and lightning clasp) !!!This entry speaks for itself and for the god-Whedon, himself.

This movie is “paken-owsom” (Translation: f***in’ awesome)!!!! After being dead, right at the get go with the first cinema-gig and being slightly reborn with the 2nd one, I can eagerly say that I am now immortalized with this over-the-top, raunchy, and mesmerizing supposed to be “slasher-only” movie of guts, murder and killer galore. But, I was fed even more than I expected. Normally, I would have just thought that a movie such as this, with a trailer, poster and theme like this… would lead me to something that I’ve regularly watched from one movie to another. I thought that I’d be given the tried, tested and rancid taste of guts flying and blood spewing all over the screen, but I was given with much, much more. Get ready to be thrilled and be perplexed, “What the f***in’ hell is happening?” (bwahahaha).

This was something that I believed was a staple, generic and cyclical take on the perils of being young, overly-sexed up and angst-y. The movie genre we famously dub as “slasher-films” has been reinvigorated and reinvented by this gem of a movie. To be honest, I’ve been eagerly waiting and wanting to watch this movie “Cabin” since I’ve heard very positive feedback from a number of people both from critics and regular movie-goers that of course included geeks just like me. And the minute, I laid my eyes on the movie’s poster being posted on the “now showing” list of one of our local malls, I directly jumped for joy and urged my girl to watch it with me. I was dead right.

I was perplexed and still am perplexed, as to how Joss Whedon (idol) managed to do something like this. This is easily a part of my Top 5 movies of all time. Maybe even Top 3. hahaha. I think I need to end this little post with this and say: “I won’t spoil you with the nittiest of all gritties… PLEASE I BEG YOU, JUST WATCH THE FILM!”

Senate’s Dilemma:

To impeach or not to impeach?

IIf most of them (the senators) reach a decision to go for the later, they’ll be held liable for becoming lenient and partial to the desires of the so-called “highest appointed law abiding, law and justice enforcing” official of the land. If they opt for the former they will be labelled as straightforward, strict, unrestrained and overly steadfast with their judgement. Hey, they’ll even be branded as “Maka-administrasyon”. Truth be told, this cycle will never end so as long as there’s the eternal Filipino tradtion of “utang na loob” that has been twisted towards a crooked, ill-minded way. Don’t get me wrong but the idea of having something to do in order to repay someone is in fact a very conservative and benevolent tradition that we Filipinos work and go for. What’s stupid is how many of us twist it into our very own weapons of mass social destruction that lead to allegiances in very high places and make us like we’re one with these so-called “gods of the land”. This cunning event will eventually shatter the very fabric of one’s own humanilty since it causes the bearer of the said “power” to suck in with the same god complex that these self-titled rulers have had since time immemorial; leaving them like crazed, power-hungry individuals that we usually see in our political, social and communal systems. All of them says “do this, that for me” and “you’ll become one of us” (filthy rich, feared, the elite who dictates what goes and doesn’t). In short, little by little these people who “eat-the-forbidden-fruit-of-deception” will become big headed, egocentric bastards who just milk the government and lay waste to the land and its people. It’s a vicious cycle and everyone can become a victim because corruption can go as deep as a simple SK or even Student Council Leader in these days of bleak.

In the end, it’s big ‘ol twisted “utang na loob” that’s making them do what they’re asked of. “Kase sya yung tumulong sa akin nung walang-wala ako eh, kaya tama lang gawin ko to kahit pumatay pa ako ng ibang tao”. I guess this is how CJ is, trying to cover up the tracks of his highly-placed friends or maybe he’s just dead evil. haha

Going back to the dilemma of the senator judges, if they’ll go on with the former, I believe they’ll still be able to set an example for most of us Filipinos who are already robbed and dismayed by the perennial disdainful corruption that has been plaguing our rotten politics. And, clearly stage a rebuttal that the law in this land, is indeed still alive and kicking. I think there’s no more space for “dahil nakaka.awa eh”. This is a time for political audacity and stringent reflection. Be it in this administration or the next, nothing’s gonna change if we cling to “THE SCUM THAT IS POLITICKING”. Hell, if the verdict goes “NO” then it might as well be the eventual death of our own justice system. Imagine, a Grade A official of the land, who’s the highest form of Judge of the Law can even break it to pieces by mere objective and biased interpretations… What else can be forecasted with the people directly below him or even those way distanced from his department? (That’s for you to reflect on) Again, we all know being truthful and honest is hard esp. if you’re into the business of governance, but that is what you are there for to be the example for all of us. No one is above the law, the people and it’s land.

Senators, it’s the time to set the example. Since we’re really good at imitating and making bootlegs why not start by becoming like Japs (Japanese) and have an honor code, “Bushido” or what ever they call it. We can call it “Adobo”.

“HAVE SOME ADOBO AND BE MINDFUL OF YOUR ACTIONS.”

Hopefully, after the very long proceedings, the hype and the what not of this sensational dramatic piece we so-call “impeachment trial” that has stretched out to it’s longest form, the verdict will be swift and applausable. Because if not, all will be for naught.

EL GRINGO

VOD releases now are quite entertaining. Scott Adkins stars in this Robert-Rodriguez-esque action romp that shouts “over-the-top” all over it but nonetheless entertains to the full brim. Heck, this might even be a full derivative of Robert Rodriguez’s Desperado but it’s a very good one for a “limited-cinema-release” movie feature. The movie’s director, Eduardo Rodriguez (no relation to the former, I think) is one up and coming visual visionary that will hopefully bring more of the sparks to the table. Scott Adkins is the new Van Damme, hail to old-skool machismo-guns-blazing riddled action movies! haha Search, Pirate and Download now!

By the way, you might get confused with Mel Gibson’s “Get the Gringo” since it has similarly the same title and relatively same2x release period. ADVICE: Get that also since it’s equally enjoyable if you like a WACKED out movie. I know, I do. haha
